Centralized
Flight Management Computer Waypoint Reporting System (CFRS)
During transoceanic flights, commercial aircraft must report
their positions at intervals to the appropriate air traffic service
provider (ATSP) as they pass through or between flight information
regions. This mandatory waypoint reporting can be performed by
voice radio or by data link.
Many late-model aircraft—those equipped with Future Air
Navigation System (FANS) features—can use automatic waypoint
reporting over data link with the ARINC Centralized
Automatic Dependent Surveillance (CADS) System.
However, not all new planes are FANS-equipped, and a growing
number of aircraft in transatlantic service must use the limited
voice radio channels to report waypoint positions. ARINC’s
Centralized Flight Management Computer Waypoint Reporting System
(CFRS) addresses this problem.
CFRS takes advantage of the automatic waypoint reporting function
built into the flight management computers of Boeing 757-200 and
767-300 and Airbus 310 and 319 airframes. These are airframes
equipped with Honeywell PIP (Product Improvement Package) or Pegasus
avionics.
The CFRS system can now process the automatic waypoint data
sent from these aircraft via HF data link, satellite, or VHF
data link. The CFRS system is deployed alongside ARINC’s
CADS system to forward the received waypoint information to
the proper ATSP.
No additional avionics or service contracts are needed for ARINC
customers to take advantage of CFRS service. Operators should
request CFRS service by registering tail numbers through their
ARINC service contact.
