ARINC Engineering Services Wins $33.2 Million Contract to Continue Navy Airborne Mine Countermeasures Work

October 25, 2011

Annapolis—ARINC Engineering Services has been awarded a 3 year, $33.2 million contract to continue its modernization and sustainment work for U.S. Navy Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasures (OAMCM) Systems at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division, FL.

The new contract means ARINC will continue more than a decade of successful support for the development, testing, and deployment of U.S. Navy mine countermeasures. The award was made under the U.S. Army CECOM (Communications-Electronics Command) Rapid Response R2-3G contract.

Organic mine countermeasure systems are designed to be used by Navy Amphibious and Carrier groups, to provide rapid mine detection and neutralization capabilities without waiting for the arrival of dedicated minesweeping resources. The Naval Surface Warfare Center plays a key role in the sustainment and modernization of airborne mine countermeasures, and is examining ways to integrate them into platforms including the Navy’s MH-60S Seahawk aircraft.

“ARINC is very excited to support the fielding of organic airborne mine countermeasure systems that take the person out of the mine field and further reduce risk to the men and women of our armed forces,” stated Charles Brooks, Senior Director, ARINC Coastal
Systems Engineering. “This is a significant win for ARINC, and for our customer the Naval Surface Warfare Center PCD, who can now take confidence in receiving the key engineering support they need for OAMCM systems to pass Developmental and Operational Testing and be fielded successfully to the warfighter.”

ARINC has long supported related Navy mine countermeasure programs, including CSTRS (Carriage-Stream-Tow-and Recovery) since 2006. The company is focused on the airborne components and systems used to deploy and operate mine countermeasures on board the Seahawk helicopter. ARINC began its work in 2000 with the Navy Towed Sonar program under previous Mine Warfare contracts.

Among the Navy airborne mine countermeasure systems currently being developed are a single-pass mine hunting, detection, classification, and identification sonar; the OASIS Organic Airborne and Surface Influence Sweep magnetic and acoustic influence minesweeping system; the expendable, remotely operated AMNS Airborne Mine Neutralization System; and the ALMDS Airborne Laser Mine Detection System.
