ARINC Offers Type B Access to Spain’s AENA Network; Many Carriers to Benefit Directly
April 26, 2011
Annapolis, Maryland—Bridging a major communications gap for the aviation industry, ARINC Incorporated today announced a direct connection between its global AviNet® Type B messaging service and the AENA aviation network of Spain.
AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea) is the Spanish government agency that owns and manages 47 airports and provides the country’s Air Traffic Control. It is the world’s largest airport operator.
ARINC installed a resilient dual connection using AviNet MQ (message queuing) and AviNet Connector, and the system has now been in operation for 90 days.
“This is a major expansion of ARINC’s community of interest and a key implementation benefiting Spain and the carriers who fly there,” said Mike DiGeorge, Senior Program Director, ARINC EMEA. “We’re helping airlines reduce their Type B costs while taking advantage of ARINC’s flexible AviNet Type B Messaging to AENA’s Network.”
With its new MQ connection to Spain, ARINC is able to directly deliver Type B message traffic in dozens of industry-standard formats such as PNLs (Passenger Name Lists), ADLs (Additions, changes and Deletions to PNLs), PALs (Passenger Assistance Lists), and PRMs (Passengers with Reduced Mobility). The AviNet MQ connection will also deliver vital slot messages formatted for AENA’s proprietary GESLOT application, such as CIR (Customs Inventory Reports), SAL (Seat Availability List), and SCR (Schedules Clearance Requests).
A key strength of ARINC AviNet Type B service is its flexibility. AviNet messages support applications such as aircraft movement monitoring, passenger handling, operations and load control. They can be read all over the world on wireless Internet-enabled handheld devices. Customers can select the best user interface for their application without concern about compatibility with business partners.
AENA is the world's largest airport operator with 47 airports and two heliports in Spain, and participates in 12 airports in Mexico, one in Cuba, and one in Colombia. AENA provides Air Traffic Control throughout Spain’s 800,000 square miles of airspace, serving 190 million passengers and managing 2.1 million operations a year.
ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide.
