ARINC Is Chosen to Provide the Cayman Islands With an Advance Passenger Information (API) System

January 13, 2011

Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated has been selected to provide an Advance Passenger Information (API) system for the Cayman Islands under a contract recently awarded by the country’s Department of Immigration (DOI).

The ARINC API system will enable the full range of commercial aviation carriers serving Grand Cayman Island to meet advance information requirements, identifying all passengers and crew members in advance of arrivals and departures.

ARINC’s Aviation Network Solutions Division will be responsible for the front-end implementation of the API system, to include network infrastructure, messaging services, and protocol and message format translations. ARINC will provide engineering and technical support throughout the Implementation Phase, and 24X7 technical and maintenance support during the Operational Phase.

The DOI will be responsible for the back-end of the API system, including pre-arrival and pre-departure screening of passengers and crew information received electronically by the ARINC front-end API system. The complete API system is expected to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2011.

The DOI says its API initiative will result in improved customer service, a goal it is moving toward. “It will positively impact the passenger experience by allowing the majority of passengers to move smoothly through immigration controls, with only those requiring closer attention being met by Immigration Officers,” according to the DOI.

“ARINC looks forward to a long and productive relationship with the Cayman Islands Department of Immigration,” stated Yun Chong, ARINC Vice President, Aviation Network Solutions. “Our selection by the Cayman Islands strengthens ARINC’s standing as the world’s leading provider of electronic border security solutions.”

API systems have become mandatory in many countries as border security becomes a major concern. When implemented, the Cayman API system will require air carriers to forward electronically a detailed list of passengers and crew on each flight, well in advance of arrival or departure. The Department of Immigration says the system will allow for advance screening and, in the end, better passenger service and experience.

ARINC API solutions are part of the ARINC Electronic BordersTM portfolio, developed to meet today’s challenges in border security. The complete portfolio utilizes ARINC’s expertise in aviation, government, surface and maritime transportation, IT, and systems integration, to deliver the most efficient, cost-effective solutions possible.
